In 1979, a large number of Han bamboo slips, 1,217 in total, were unearthed in Maquanwan, Dunhuang County, including three calligraphy styles: Li, Cao and Xing. The secretary's slips are made of Zhang Cao, and the words are tactful, smooth and unrestrained. They have the demeanor of everyone and set the trend of cursive style for future generations. It was the main font used daily in Dunhuang between the middle of the Western Han Dynasty and the Xinman Dynasty.
