Wang Anshi (1021-1086), whose courtesy name was Jiefu and Banshan, also known as Banshan Old Man, was from Linchuan, Fuzhou (now part of Jiangxi). A famous politician, writer and thinker in the Northern Song Dynasty.
  "The Essential Volume of the Surangama Sutra in Running Script" was written by Wang Anshi who personally corrected the text of the Surangama Sutra one year before his death. It is signed by "I returned to Zhongshan, Daoyuan faked the Surangama edition, corrected it by hand, and engraved it in the temple. On April 11th, the eighth year of Yuanfeng (1085), Wang Anshi of Linchuan read the book in a respectful manner." The author was sixty-five years old. At the back of the volume are inscriptions and postscripts by Mou Xianzhi of the Southern Song Dynasty, Meng Wang of the Yuan Dynasty, Xiang Yuanbian and Zhou Dynasty of the Ming Dynasty. It was collected by Chen Weiyin in the Yuan Dynasty and collected by Xiang Yuanbian and Cao Rong in the Ming Dynasty.
