White Feather Fan Fu in running script, silk scroll, 136.5X60.2cm, collected by the National Palace Museum, Taipei

Zhang Jiuling, a poet and prime minister in the Tang Dynasty, was ostracized by the powerful officials in the court. Because Xuanzong gave him a white feather fan, he wrote a poem to express his ambition, which means being wise and protecting oneself. This work by Dong Qichang was written at the age of seventy-eight (1632). It still maintains its consistent elegant and cheerful rhythm, which makes people feel that it has endless aftertaste.
