Shi Ling is a good calligrapher, with exquisite writing style, without losing sight of Ou or Yu. Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, Yuan Chang and Chu Suiliang, kings of the Han Dynasty, all received it from Shi Ling. Chu first studied with Yu, and later studied history. He said to Ling: This method cannot be taught to others, and this is its beauty. Zhao Mingcheng's "Jinshilu" contains a stone from Shi Ling's official book "Sui Yu Temple Stele".
